[SOLVED] Dead and/or Misread Regions in Depth Display of NiViewer

I have set up and commenced testing of a recently delivered new Astra Embedded S but am experiencing results that do not fit the expected outcomes described in the setup documentation. I’m hopeful there is some sort of calibration or set up step I need to take rather than have the unit replaced but this doesn’t appear optimistic.

The file for this post is a screen capture of the output of NiViewer with a human hand in front of the unit. Note the image on the right is consistent in it’s UV projection whereas the image on the left does not accurately represent the (presumed) input information. There are large sections of nothingness, and a flickering bottom region displayed at a uniform depth which I managed to capture in the screenshot. This occurs on both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04

Has anyone seen anything like this before and have insight on what may be the issue?

Hi e-sarkis,

It seems like the resolution is not chosen to be the right one for Embedded S.
You could try to set it to 1280×800 or 640×400 for depth and IR image.
Both of them works on mine.

I changed the orbbec.ini file’s Depth section Resolution value and IR section Resolution value to 640x400 and now obtain the desired results - thanks!

Great to hear this from you!

hello, depth(or ir) section resolution value is the cropping area?

Resolution was the issue - I’ve solved it by editing the orbbec.ini file and am marking this topic as solved.

can you show the orbbec.ini file? thank you

See the full Linux orbbec.ini file contents pasted below!

On Windows (which has a less documented .ini file) changing the [Depth] and [IR] resolution to 17 worked as well
